OMEGA has redrawn the Speedmaster 38 mm around a clearer question: how much Moonwatch character can fit into a smaller automatic chronograph without turning it into a miniature replica? Seven new references bring round subdials, less dial text, thicker Dot-Over-Ninety bezels and five-link Moonwatch-style bracelets. The black model is the only no-date watch and the only one powered by Calibre 3332; the other six use the date-equipped Calibre 3330.

The Redesign Is More Than A Colour Update
Rounded counters, reduced dial wording and the thicker tachymeter bezel move the family closer to Moonwatch design without changing its compact automatic-chronograph proposition. The five-link bracelet reinforces the family connection, but the seven references divide into four distinct buyer paths rather than one watch in seven colours.
The Black No-Date Model Is The Purist Choice
Reference 324.30.38.50.01.002 combines a matt black dial, black aluminium bezel and no date. Calibre 3332 is exclusive to it. That makes the black watch the only version where the cleaner layout and Moonwatch argument align mechanically as well as visually.
The Six Date Models Have Separate Jobs
The white/blue and silvery/grey steel references are the restrained daily choices. The Moonshine Gold/green and Sedna Gold/ivory bicolour references bring deliberately different warm-metal personalities. The ice-blue and mother-of-pearl references share the 52-diamond, 1.53-carat bezel treatment but do not share the same dial effect. Treating those six watches as a single decorative remainder misses the structure of the collection.
Collector Note
The black reference has the clearest heritage case, but it is not automatically the best watch for every buyer. The decision starts with the date: reject it and the field collapses to one. Keep it and the real choice becomes steel restraint, bicolour contrast or diamond-set decoration.
